Pistachio District Yield Estimation Commission, which carries out its work under the coordination of Nizip District Governorate, Nizip District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Nizip Commodity Exchange and Nizip Chamber of Agriculture, announced the 2020 Nizip district pistachio estimated yield results.
Evaluating the yield forecast results, Nizip Commodity Exchange Chairman of the Board of Directors, İbrahim SARI, said, "We expect a productive harvest season and a high yield in pistachios this year. Under the coordination of our Nizip District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, the Pistachio district yield forecast commission, consisting of expert agricultural engineers in their field, completed its work and published a report. According to the report, pistachio production in Nizip for 2020 is approximately 50 thousand." It is expected to be realized in tons.
Regions and neighborhoods showing differences in terms of yield were determined by the yield estimation commission, and the plots of 21 different farmers with trees of different ages and in yield years were examined. In the study, the total pistachio area was determined as 507,789 da, the total number of pistachio trees was 9,179,415, and the total number of fruit-bearing trees was 7,771,642. Additionally, the average yield per tree was estimated as 6,531 kg/tree. According to these data, a yield of approximately 50 thousand tons of pistachios is estimated in Nizip for 2020.
Considering the annual yield data and the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nizip district alone covers approximately 56% of the yield in the Gaziantep region. This situation has made Nizip district a pistachio production, trade and export center.
In addition to the crop produced only in Nizip district, tons of pistachios coming from surrounding provinces and districts are processed in the pistachio processing facilities located in the district and then distributed throughout Türkiye. Nizip district, which dominates the pistachio market, has also become a raw pistachio processing center.
Pistachios are the main source of income for our district, and tens of thousands of people bring bread to their homes from this product. It is our duty to protect pistachios, which is a strategically important product that is identified with the region and our district. As Nizip Commodity Exchange, we tried to express the problems experienced in the Pistachio sector and our solution suggestions in front of the relevant authorities at every opportunity.
